The objects in the dwf file are linked with certain functions which access the database and provide information regardig the object clicked. Presently i have not found a way to make the dwf communicate with the database, but I have managed to link the objects in the dwf and the database via html codes.
The tempelate provided by Dr.Wei Yan was taken as the base for the project. I continued to work on the tempelate by linking objects in the dwf to strings that would help me access information from the database.
With the help of the following screen shots I will describe how the end html page works.
I started off with creating queries in the MS Access database of the original revit file. The queries made were regarding the total number of doors, plumbing fixtures and plants in the project, where they are located and what type.
After creating the queries I, used their sql strings and included them in the html code, in order to get information regarding the object i click on.Once all the objects were linked using Adobe Dreamweaver, this is what the result was:
As you can see in the picture above, the red dot with click one shows that when the viewer first clicks on the door, the text box below gets populated with the string that is required to retrive information about the doors. Next when the viewr clicks on the "Run Query" button, the box on the right hand side is populated with information shows types of doors and on which level they are and how many of each tyoe are present on each level.
Similarly in the above picture the objects marked "click 1" are the objects that are linked and then once they are clicked and then followed by clicking the run query button, the viwer gets the information regarding the objects. In this case it is the plumbing fixtures, which are classified by type and which level they are on and whats their count.
In the above picture, when viewer clicks on the tree, the information he eventually gets is regarding the number of trees of each type.
